Students chose green as UNT’s color more than a century ago to gain Mother Nature’s favor. And it’s long been more than a school color to us. It’s a sign of our long-running dedication to being environmentally responsible — from our first research in examining differences in tap water to today's numerous academic programs focused on environmental sustainability to our energy-saving efforts in our eco-friendly buildings. We are leading the way as a sustainable campus and teaching our students to carry on a lifelong commitment to being green.

Big Campus

UNT has a 900-acre campus that includes:

Growing

With its café and rooftop garden, UNT’s Business Leadership Building is a showcase for programs on the rise. High-tech amenities, trading rooms and cloud computing make learning easier and greener for budding entrepreneurs and business professionals.

UNT's Business Learning Building

Green Building

UNT’s new University Union, which opened in 2015, is a campus gathering place, built to stringent environmental standards. It will be our sixth LEED-certified building, joining such jewels as Apogee Stadium — the first newly constructed collegiate football stadium in the nation to achieve LEED Platinum Certification, the highest level.

  • FIRST: UNT is Texas’ first large public university to sign the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.
  • 7: UNT has been named a Green College by The Princeton Review for seven years.
Vegan Cafe

Energy Efficient

  • SMALLER “FOODPRINT”: UNT is the nation’s first university to offer a vegan-only dining facility — Mean Greens at Maple Hall — and serves 2.2 million meals a year using the freshest regionally sourced ingredients available.
  • $3 MILLION: Under a 20-year energy savings contract, UNT has made 120 existing buildings more energy efficient and will save $3 million annually.
  • ENERGY: At UNT, we get almost half of our energy from renewable sources, including wind turbines at Apogee Stadium.
  • GREENEST: UNT is ranked the greenest college in Texas by eCollegeFinder.
