Eligibility & Requirements.
Each chapter takes new members at different times throughout the year and welcomes all students. We hope you explore all of your options and build a lifelong legacy.
- An individual interested in joining a fraternity or sorority at UNT Dallas must
- be enrolled as a full-time student in good standing with the university
- have a 2.5 Cumulative GPA
Each fraternity or sorority will have its own individual requirements for membership. These requirements can include any of the following:
- Leadership Experience in other organizations in high school, at a college/university, in your community, etc.
- Community Service Hours or Philanthropic Contributions
- Letters of Recommendation
To learn more about a specific organization and what their requirements may be, you may contact the chapter's president or attend a chapter-sponsored event.
What is my first step?
Your first step should be to do your research. It is recommended that you look at all the chapters on campus in order to find the best fit for you. Chartering a New Chapter
The fraternity and sorority community at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) is a growing group of organizations that represent various backgrounds, principles and values. The University of North Texas at Dallas seeks organizations whose ideals are consistent with the University’s mission and values and that are willing to commit the resources necessary to cultivate a strong, sustainable organization. The University of North Texas at Dallas recognizes that fraternities and sororities are a valuable component of the undergraduate experience and the growth of fraternity/sorority life serves to advance the University mission and goals. A collaborative relationship between the university, Greek Life and the organization is necessary to promote a positive experience for all students and to ensure success and sustainability of the chapter. The organization must be affiliated with an inter/national fraternity or sorority.
Student-Driven Requests: Interested students should contact the inter/national office for the fraternity or sorority they would like to bring to campus. Please contact the office of Fraternity & Sorority Life to let us know how we can assist in connecting you with the appropriate official of that organization. The success of an expansion request will be driven by the number of interested students. The fraternity/sorority will usually require a certain number of students to begin chartering. The inter/national office for the organization will be responsible for submitting the official expansion request to the UNT Dallas Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
Requests from Fraternity/Sorority Inter/National Offices: The Fraternity & Sorority Life Office at UNT Dallas values the involvement of these organizations in joining our community. Expansion officers are encouraged to contact our office should they be interested om expansion opportunities via email to Rifeta "Fifi" Badic-Grady rifeta.badic@untdallas.edu. A meeting and/or visit can be scheduled upon request with further instruction and review of the UNT Dallas Greek Expansion Process.
The Greek Expansion Process requires the submission of the following:
- Documentation and/or letter of intent from an inter/national fraternity or sorority headquarters detailing their approval and support for the establishment of a chapter at UNT Dallas
- Name and information of the main point of contact who will be facilitating the start of the colony/chapter/charter group, a list of local graduate/alumni chapters, AND at least three (3) individuals that will serve as the graduate/alumni advisors. These individuals may NOT be undergraduate or graduate students
- Chartering Procedure or expansion/colonization plan, that outlines how the fraternity/sorority establishes new chapters including a timeline, trainings, policies, procedures, individual and group requirements, etc.
- General Liability Insurance
- List of all recent/new charter groups, colonies, and chapters
- New Member Education/Intake Curriculum
- List of continuous member development programs such as leadership trainings, conventions, conferences, institutes, etc. offered by the state, local, regional, national, and/or international levels of the fraternity/sorority
- List of all interested and/or potential members enrolled as full-time students at UNT Dallas, also include any initiated members enrolled at UNT Dallas
- Any and all assessment data that demonstrates the educational impact the organization is having on undergraduate and alumni growth and development – i.e. learning outcomes, survey data, educational program data, etc.
The Greek Expansion Process follows this timeline:
- Request is received
- Overview of process is communicated with requesting fraternity/sorority.
- Official request and submission is sent to Greek Life Coordinator.
- Greek Life Coordinator assembles Greek Expansion Committee.
- Greek Expansion Presentation scheduled with requesting fraternity/sorority and committee.
- Committee deliberates and makes a recommendation.
- Recommendation is sent to Dean of Students to make final decision.
- Greek Life Coordinator sends decision to fraternity/sorority.
Greek Expansion Committee: The Expansion Committee will assess the status of the need or lack thereof to extend offers to applying organizations. The Greek Life Coordinator shall keep active records of organizations who expressed interest in the University of North Texas at Dallas. The duties of this committee shall be to study the applications or requests of groups seeking membership status at the University of North Texas at Dallas. The Greek Life Expansion Committee shall consist of:
- Greek Life Coordinator (1)
- Student Affairs Staff (6)
- University Staff – Non Student Affairs (2)
- At least one (1) active member from each fraternity/sorority
- Dean of Students (1)
