Mariela Nuñez-Janes (profe) specializes in education, immigration, and youth. Her areas of interest also include Latinxs, feminist pedagogies, and participatory methodologies. Dr. Nuñez-Janes' applied research focuses on the following interdisciplinary and pedagogical areas: 1) educational experiences of Latinxs and other marginalized populations, 2) youth-led social movements, and 3) innovative pedagogies and research methodologies that promote equity and empowerment. Profe joined the anthropology faculty at UNT in the fall of 2003. She is involved in research projects that include collaboration with students, youth, and local communities. At UNT she is a founding member of La Colectiva (http://facultysuccess.unt.edu/la-colectiva-mentoring-team-expanding-through-collaboration-0), an advisory board member and mentor in the McNair Scholars Program (http://honors.unt.edu/mcnair-scholars/program-information) and a member of the LMAS executive board (http://lmas.unt.edu). Dr. Nuñez-Janes is the recipient of the 2017 UNT Foundation Community Engagement Award.
