Note: Instructors are strongly recommended to contact the UIT Desktop Services office prior to the beginning of each semester to request software, configuration changes and/or test applications.

Note: Faculty members can contact their college network manager — Jim Byford, ENG, and Alan Livingston, COI — about immediate issues with any of the Discovery Park classrooms with computers managed by UIT Desktop Services. The network managers will collaborate with UIT Desktop Support to correct all issues in a timely manner.

We have configured the Windows desktops with the following configuration:

  • Dell OptiPlex 3030 All-In-One (Intel Core i5 3GHz, 8GB RAM)
  • Windows 10 64-bit OS
  • iCheckin self-service login client
  • Blackboard and Canvas support web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome)
  • Adobe Acrobat XI Professional
  • SSH & SCP clients
  • VLC video player
  • 7-Zip archive tool
  • Microsoft Office 2016

We have configured the Apple desktops in DP-D215 with the following configuration:

  • Apple iMac (21.5-inch Late 2013, Intel Core i5 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM)
  • OS X 10.11
  • Microsoft Office 2016
  • Blackboard and Canvas support web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome)

Please note: Instructors and students can expect updated software that meet CLEAR's specifications for BlackBoard Learn and Canvas.

If further technical requirements are required, professors and/or their representive staff member should determine carefully what technologies, applications and features will be needed for their environment and convey that information to the UIT Desktop Services manager. It is the instructor's responsibility to verify that the computer setup is as required for class.
