Kinesiology student headed to the Taekwondo International World Championships

Corbin Deaton, a senior in the College of Education Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation, will be representing Team USA in the Taekwondo International World Championships in Birmingham, England, in July.

Corbin's journey hasn't been an easy one. Injuries led to bilateral ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgeries, but she didn't let that get her down. In 2015, she won bronze and silver medals in her first international competition in Roana, Italy, and took home gold, silver and bronze medals in last year's International Goodwill Championship in Tampa, Florida. She also was just awarded the first Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation Elite Athlete Performance Award that helps support elite international level athletes as they compete for the United States and complete UNT degrees.

The Dallas Observer met with her at a training facility to learn more about her story.
