This place brings back the nostalgia of Austin, TX in the early 90’s. A college town who’s potentia...l for booming diversity hadn’t been fully tapped yet. A beautiful city and campus. Better enjoy it now because, just like Austin, the world will come to realize what a wonderful place this is and flock to it! I am excited that my son will be a Freshman this coming fall! In honor of the upcoming CIME/ICEM 2014 Festival and Conference from Oct 1– 4 hosted by UNT...
Today we are focusing on a really cool upcoming event featuring UNT faculty members Elizabeth McNutt and Andrew May in a performance celebrating modern chamber music by Mexican composers.
Mexico's popular musics are widely appreciated in the U.S., but
Mexico's lively contemporary classical music scene is relatively
unknown here; classical audiences are more familiar with music from across the oceans than across the border.
On Thursday, August 28 at 8 pm, Sounds Modern will present "Neighbor Notes: modern chamber music by Mexican composers," with Elizabeth McNutt (flute), Shannon Wettstein (piano), and Andrew May (violin) performing.
In this concert, inspired by the recent exhibit ³Mexico Inside Out² at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, works by Mario Lavista, José-Luis Hurtado, Arturo Fuentes, Victor Ibarra, Francisco Cortés-Alvarez, and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez will present a cross-section of trends in modern Mexican concert music.
The concert will be held in the Crowley Theater, Marfa, Texas, hosted by the Chinati Foundation, and will be streamed live:
