Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA)

ERMA® is an online mapping tool that integrates both static and real-time data, such as Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps, ship locations, weather, and ocean currents, in a centralized, easy-to-use format for environmental responders and decision makers. ERMA is designed to:

Video: An Introduction to the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA)

This instructional video introduces first-time users to ERMA, NOAA's online mapping tool for environmental disaster response, and walks you through the basic features and tools within it.

Great Lakes ERMA

Great Lakes ERMA is an online mapping tool facilitating coastal pollution cleanup, restoration, and response efforts in the Great Lakes Basin, from Minnesota to New York in the United States, and from Ontario to Quebec in Canada.

Technical Information about ERMA

The Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA®) enables a user to quickly and securely upload, manipulate, export, and display both static and real-time geographic data sets.

Arctic ERMA

Find out how NOAA is using the online mapping tool ERMA to help the Arctic region prepare for climate change and possible oil spills.

Atlantic ERMA

The Atlantic coastal environment faces many threats, including pollution from hazardous waste sites, accidents involving crude oil trains, and oil spills associated with marine transportation. The online mapping tool Atlantic ERMA is a key part of equipping resource managers and responders with the geographic information they need for an effective industrial waste site case, emergency response, or for future restoration activities.

Caribbean ERMA

Caribbean ERMA has been used to visualize environmental response data during a regional oil spill drill and to map vessel groundings near coral reefs.

ERMA Deepwater Gulf Response

Following the settlement of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, all the data and bookmarked map views were integrated into the existing regional Gulf of Mexico ERMA® site.

Pacific Islands ERMA

Pacific Islands ERMA covers the Hawaiian Islands and outlying territories. It is primarily focused on impacts from coastal storms and marine debris, including data for the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami response.

Gulf of Mexico ERMA

Gulf of Mexico ERMA integrates key information to support environmental and severe-weather responses in the Gulf of Mexico.

Pacific Northwest ERMA

This regional ERMA allows stakeholders and communities to visualize ecological, human use and infrastructure data in a centralized location.

Southwest ERMA

Southwest ERMA has played a role from the earliest days of the response and damage assessment for the 2015 Refugio beach Oil Spill near Santa Barbara CA.
