First Day Hikes to Showcase Wintertime Beauty of State Parks …
Early winter is a wonderful time for a trip to a New Jersey state park or forest, where there is no shortage of activities such as climbing a mountain for stunning and unobstructed panoramas, hiking secluded trails dusted with snow, or enjoying the peaceful serenity of an ice-encrusted lake. This special time of year – with the trees bare, the grasses brown, and the ever-present possibility of snow – provides visitors with ample opportunities to seek a secluded place for soaking in the beauty of our parks and forests. On New Year’s Day, the State Park Service will be holding a series of First Day hikes designed to showcase this beauty and enable the public to ring in 2017 in a healthful way. For more information and ideas about visiting the parks in the winter, visit the Division of Parks and Forestry website. For more on First Day hikes, read the news release.
