SAN MARCOS, Texas - The North Texas track and field teams came away with 18 podium finishes and three event titles on April 27-28 at the Bobcat Classic hosted by Texas State.

"It was a great tune up for our teams," head coach Carl Sheffield said. "Several season-best times will help propel our team into training for the C-USA Championships. It's important to end our regular season on a high note. For the upperclassmen, it gives them an idea of where they are and for the freshmen it gives them confidence that things continue to improve." 

On Day two, freshman Haley Walker finished first in discus with a personal-best throw of 49.29 meters, second-best mark in school history. Walker also placed second in shot put with a throw of 14.14 meters.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the women's team of Taylor Blackshire, Bria Williams, Breanna Eckels and Aneesa Scott came in third with a time of 45.53.

Junior Rea Iseli finished second in the 1500-meter run with a personal-best time of 4:29.19. On the men's side, sophomore Tim Jones came in third at 3:54.88 and freshman Shane Bracken was fourth with a personal-best time of 3:56.02.

Freshman Lyric Choice finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:02.31 and freshman Jazzman Clare was fifth at 1:03.48. 

Freshman Joseph Squire placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.42 and sophomore Jacob Kevetter was fourth at 15.07.

Freshman Aneesa Scott placed third in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 23.90 and junior James Cole came in second in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 21.07.

In the final event, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Choice, Williams, Brittni Emanuel and Scott finish second with a personal-best time of 3:47.46.

On Friday, sophomore Bailey Ashmore increased her own school record with a career-best pole vault of 4.05 meters, placing first. Junior Brady Trankle finished tied for second with a career-best pole vault of 4.64 meters.

Senior Dominique Drayden finished third in long jump with a mark of 7.12 meters. Drayden also was fourth in triple jump at 14.46 meters. Eckels was second in long jump with a mark of 6.10 meters.

In men's javelin, junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra finished first with a throw of 63.17 meters. Sophomore Karl Sralla was fourth with a throw of 52.22 meters. Sophomore Kristyn Archuleta was second in javelin with a throw of 43.82 meters.

Sophomore Jennifer White came in second with a personal-best time of 11:30.67 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Junior Cassidy Adams was third in the 3000m steeplechase at 11:38.47.

In the men's 3000m steeplechase, freshman Matthew Morgan finished second with a personal-best time of 9:44.26.

"We have about 10 days to get rested up and sharpen our training for the championship portion of our season," Sheffield said. "Freshman Haley Walker continues to impress in the discus and Bailey Ashmore is putting herself right into the thick of the conference chase. I'm really looking forward to a week without competition to improve on some things in training."

North Texas will have two weeks to prepare for the 2018 Conference USA Outdoor Championships on May 11-13 hosted by Rice.
