TRENDING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over roughly 20 months ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 109 spots to break into the top 100, and currently sit 87 spots better than when he arrived in Denton.

AKERS SAYS: "I am very excited and proud to host a first class event at Maridoe Golf Club this week. We are thankful to Mr. Bruzzy Westheimer for sponsoring the tournament and to Mr. Albert Huddleston for hosting at his incredible golf club. The field is very strong and I am thrilled to bring in such quality teams for a first time event. One of the many joys I have as a coach is to host events that the players remember forever. Details make a big difference and the players and coaches will notice the attention to detail from the tee gift to the hotel to the golf course.

"From a competitive standpoint it is always good to host at a venue you have experience at. Sabina and Lauren have put in extra time this spring down at Maridoe so I hope it pays off for them. We are looking to get some quality wins this week and pick up confidence heading down to the CUSA Championship in less then two weeks."

UP NEXT: North Texas heads to Florida from April 16-18 for the Conference USA Championships.

HOME SWEET MARIDOE: North Texas has enjoyed its first year in its new home - the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton. The course opened to members in July and gives the Mean Green a state-of-the-art home course with world-class facilities, including a fully-dedicated practice facility, complete with a two-ended driving range to account for many varying wind conditions, a sprawling three-acre short game retreat and indoor facilities with state-of-the-art hitting bays that provide tools the program has not yet had at its disposal.
