SAN ANTONIO - The North Texas track and field teams posted six podium finishes, including a school record by freshman Haley Walker in shot put, Saturday at the Incarnate Word Invitational.

"I was really excited about the performance of our youngsters this weekend," head coach Carl Sheffield said. "They continue to gain confidence each week and freshman Haley Walker had a pretty good weekend. She finished top-three in discus and shot put, while establishing a new school record."

Walker threw a career-best mark and broke the school record at 14.86 meters (48-9.00 feet) in shot put, coming in third place. Sophomore Karl Sralla finished third in javelin with a throw of 53.12 meters (174-03 feet). Walker also placed third in discus with a throw of 47 meters (154-02 feet).

Freshman Lyric Choice finished third in 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.16. In 400-meter hurdles, freshman Joseph Squire was second with a time of 54.87 and sophomore Jacob Kevetter came in third at 55.31.

"Our hurdle crew had a nice weekend with the growth of Joseph Squire and Lyric Choice," Sheffield said. "Both had much improved performances today."

In the 1500-meter run, freshman Shane Bracken finished fifth with a time of 3:57.57, sophomore Tim Jones was seventh at 3:59.99 and senior Zach Kirkland came in eighth at 4:01.12.

Darrian Johnson (2:18.47) and Victoria Junious (2:19.37) finished inside the top-10 in the 800-meter run coming in eighth and ninth place. On the men's side, freshman Shane Bracken was 10th in the 800m with a time of 1:59.35 and Alex Cleveland was 12th at 2:00.30.

"A select group of athletes will travel to California next week to try and improve performance marks for the NCAA prelims in Sacramento, this summer," Sheffield said. "We look forward to pulling everyone back together at our end of the month meet at Texas State."

What's Next
North Texas will split the team into a couple of different meets in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays and Long Beach Invitational from April 21-22.
