Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Football

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green football. University of North Texas head coach Seth Littrell led the Mean Green to the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl and a four-win improvement from 2015 in his first season at the helm of the program. Littrell, 38, one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, was instrumental in raising the Mean Green's scoring average 9.6 points per game from 2015, while also helping the defensive side of the ball hold opponents to 8.7 points per game fewer than the previous season.

Quick Hits On North Texas
During the 2016-17 school year, the Mean Green soccer team won its third-straight Conference USA regular-season conference championship and the football team played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl for the second time in the last four years. Individually, 48 Mean Green athletes were named all-conference and five were named all-region.

Nine competitors advanced to the NCAA post-season play with three golfers competing in the NCAA Regionals, and six track and field athletes advancing to the NCAA West Preliminaries. Maria Kononova ended the tennis season ranked No. 78 in the country, which is the highest ranking for a Mean Green tennis player in school history.

The future looks bright at North Texas with two freshman receiving conference specialty awards and five newcomers being named to all-freshman teams this past season.

Facilities
Apogee Stadium, the home of North Texas football, is the long-awaited replacement to Fouts Field and the centerpiece of the Mean Green Athletic Village. Opened in 2011, Apogee Stadium was designed by the same team that created the spectacular Dallas Cowboys Stadium, award-winning architects HKS Sports and Entertainment Group and Manhattan Construction, and they brought some of the same touches to Denton. Apogee features two huge, state-of-the-art video boards, 21 luxury suites, 750 club seats, high-tech facilities for broadcast and print media, banquet rooms and an 1,800-square-foot team apparel store.

The team trains on the Darrell R. Dickey Practice Facility, at the Mean Green Village, which also contains a locker room and a team lounge.

Academic Athletic Services
In the Fall of 2005, the academic and compliance staff relocated to the Mean Green Village. Located on Bonnie Brae, the new Student-Athlete Development Center is three times the size of the former academic center. The Center serves as the cornerstone of the Mean Green Village and is only a short walk from the surrounding sports facilities.
