Myers Named C-USA Spirit Of Service Honoree

Dec. 12, 2017

DENTON - Conference USA recognized North Texas volleyball senior Mikali Myers as one of its 2017 Fall Spirit of Service Honorees on Tuesday.

Myers is one of 14 student-athletes and one of five volleyball players chosen by the conference for the award. The honorees are selected based on significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their selected sport.

"I remember how much I looked up to the college student-athletes in my hometown growing up, so to be like them is an amazing feeling," Myers said. "I'm very thankful for my team's support and to C-USA for the award."

Her laundry list of service projects includes volunteering with The Village Church, Denton ISD, YoungLives, Denton County Friends of the Family, Our Daily Bread and Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center. Myers served as secretary on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of the NAACP, Black Student Union Committee and Athletes in Training.

"Giving back to the community is important not only to myself, but to the team," Myers said. "I've received so much support from the community, so I just wanted to give back a mere fraction of what they've given me."

Myers played in 146 sets across 77 matches over the last four seasons, including seven appearances in the last nine matches, helping North Texas to a share of the regular season C-USA title and the program's first postseason victory. The San Marcos, Texas, native has tallied 89 kills, 22 digs and 64 total blocks in her career.

Myers has been a driving force on and off the court. A two-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal for having a GPA of 3.75 or better, Myers graduated last May with a 3.99 GPA in psychology. She is currently pursuing a second bachelor’s in biology and plans to attend medical school after graduation.
