AUSTIN, Texas -- An early 20th minute goal by the Texas Longhorns set the tone in Friday's NCAA Tournament first round match as the Mean Green soccer team fell 3-0 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and are eliminated.

Texas contained the potent Mean Green offense to just eight shots and three shots on goal. But more importantly broke though a North Texas defense that had only given up one goal in its previous four matches.

"Texas is an outstanding team and is well deserving of their No. 4 seeding," said Mean Green head coach John Hedlund. "It's disappointing for all of us because we feel we gave up a couple soft goals and that's not who we were the last five games when we made the run to win our fifth C-USA championship. We had set a standard of defense first."

The Longhorns scored their first goal after their midfielder Haley Berg beat two defenders and then found the wide open Cyera Hintzen in the box on a cross.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the half, Texas struck again in the 68th minute after a miscommunication in the front of the net allowed Hintzen to score her second goal of the match.

"I've been proud of our team's effort all season," Hedlund said. "Even today late when we were down we kept fighting."

The Mean Green's Natalie McDonough had a team-leading three shots and had one just miss as it soared over the cross bar.

With the exception to a few corner kicks by North Texas, the Mean Green were limited all night and their offense wasn't able to open up.

Seniors Cat Sebazco and Tori Phillips end their Mean Green careers with 64 wins.

"I'm proud of everything we accomplished over these past four years and how far we came this year," Phillips said.

"I hadn't really thought of this being our last game until just now," Sebazco said. "We came out a little slow today but there's a lot to be proud of."
