Track & Field Begins Outdoor Season At TCU Invitational

DENTON – The North Texas track and field team will open the 2018 outdoor season close to home at the TCU Invitational March 17 at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex in Fort Worth.

The meet will feature 11 schools in host TCU, Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Baylor, Eastern Michigan, Northwestern State, Oklahoma, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, and UTA.

The throwing events will start the meet early Friday with men’s and women’s discus at 11:30 a.m. On day two, men’s and women’s javelin will start the day at 9:30 a.m. The final event will conclude with the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 5:30 p.m.

Sophomore Kristyn Archuleta will be the favorite in javelin coming in with the highest seed mark at 49.39 meters. Archuleta is the defending Conference USA champion and NCAA West participant in javelin.

Junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra will compete for the first time this season in javelin holding the highest seed at 63.15 meters. Lopez-Ibarra also competed at the NCAA West Preliminaries and finished 36th in javelin.

Sophomore Breanna Eckels will make her outdoor debut after missing the entire indoor season. Eckels will compete in long jump with freshman Kiara Pickens.

In the distance events, senior Christina Moralez, sophomore Darrian Johnson, and junior Baylee Nelson will take part in the 1500-meter run. In the men’s event, freshman Shane Bracken, senior Rick Nally, sophomore Tim Jones and senior Mike Lowe will participate.

In the 800-meter run, junior Rea Iseli, Susannah Lynch and senior Victoria Junious will run in section one of two.

North Texas will participate in eight outdoor meets before traveling to Houston on May 11-13 for the Conference USA Championships hosted by Rice.
