Scholarship Opportunities at UNT Dallas

Many of the scholarships that are awarded at the University of North Texas at Dallas are based on the student’s application for admission. Freshman and transfer students must be fully admitted by March 1st for the fall term to be considered for scholarships. Funding is limited.  NEW for 2017-2018: If you would like to be considered   for an institutional scholarship, you must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid).  Scholarship funds are limited.

PLEASE NOTE:

Institutional scholarship requirements for undergraduate students are changing from 12 to 15 credit hours starting Fall 2014. Additionally, please note that institutional scholarships will not disburse until the 12th day of classes. Some institutional scholarships may not be combined with others.

Awarded to entering freshman enrolled full time. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Additional criteria that must be met will be on the application.

Scholarships Available to Freshman 17-18

Excellence Scholarship ($20,000)

  • $5,000 per year/$2,500 fall and spring x 4 years
  • 1000 SAT and/or 21 ACT or
  • Class rank top 25%
  • 15 semester credit hours
  • Renewable with a 3.25 UNTD GPA and meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Jaguar Scholarship ($16,000)

  • $4,000 per year/$2,000 fall and spring x 4 years
  • 950 SAT and/or 20 ACT
  • Class rank top 40%
  • 15 semester credit hours
  • Renewable with a 3.00 UNTD GPA and meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Blue and Green Scholarship ($12,000)

  • $3,000 per year/$1,500 fall and spring x 4 years
  • 910 SAT and/or 16 ACT or
  • Class rank top 50%
  • 15 semester credit hours
  • Renewable with a 2.75 UNTD GPA and meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Cornerstone Scholarship ($4,000)

  • Awarded yearly based on information contained in FAFSA x 4 years
  • $1,000 annually
  • Student must remain Pell eligible
  • 15 semester credit hours
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA at the end of each semester and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) 

 

Scholarships Available to Transfer Students 17-18

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

  • $4,000 per year with transfer GPA of 3.50
    • $2,000 fall and spring x 2 years
  • $3,000 per year with transfer GPA of 3.25
    • $1,500 fall and spring x 2 years
  • $2,000 per year with transfer GPA of 3.00
    • $1,000 fall and spring x 2 years

Phi Theta Kappa Membership

Renewable with requisite UNTD GPA and 15 semester credit or 30 semester credit hours per year while meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). In addition, submission of PTK certificate or membership card should be sent as early as possible during your admission process. Not stackable with other transfer scholarships.

Achieve the Dream

  • $3,000 per year with transfer GPA of 3.00 for fall and spring x 2 years
  • 30 transferable semester credit hours
  • 15 semester credit hours each semester or 30 semester credit hours per year
  • Renewable with 3.00 cumulative GPA while meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

TRANSFERmation Scholarship

  • $2,000 per year with transfer GPA of 2.75 for fall and spring x 2 years
  • 30 transferable semester credit hours
  • 15 semester credit hours each semester or 30 semester credit hours per year
  • Renewable with 2.75 cumulative GPA and while meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

 

 

Graduate Scholarships

Graduate Studies Academic Achievement Scholarship

The University of North Texas at Dallas Graduate Programs Scholarship Committee, which consists of a representative from each master's degree program, will administer the application and selection process for the Graduate Studies Academic Achievement Scholarship.

Students are eligible to receive the UNT Dallas Graduate Studies Academic Achievement Scholarship for a maximum of three academic years (nine semesters) depending on the program of study. Master's degree students completing degrees requiring 30-48 credit hours may receive the scholarship for up to two (2) years or 6 semesters. Master's degree students completing degrees requiring 60 credits hours may receive the scholarship for up to three (3) years or 9 semesters.

The standard scholarship allotment per student at UNT Dallas is currently a minimum of $500 or maximum of $1,000 per semester or $1,500 or a maximum of $3,000 per academic standard year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • New Students:  Applicants must have been admitted to a UNT Dallas master's degree program or have a completed application file.  Applicants who will be first-time graduate students should, at a minimum, have a 2.80 or higher overall GPA or a 3.00 or higher GPA on the last 60 hours of coursework leading to the bachelor's degree.
  • Current UNT Dallas Graduate Students:  Applicants who have completed UNT Dallas graduate-level coursework must have a 3.50 GPA on a minimum of 9 credit hours of prior graduate-level work.

Students who were previously awarded a scholarship and have exhausted the semester limit for that program prior to graduation may not apply for another scholarship should they decide to enroll in extra courses to pursue an additional certification of master's degree program.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be evaluated on:

  • Past academic achievement and accomplishments
  • Potential to excel in graduate work
  • Academic goals
  • Evidence of applicant's intellectual curiosity and linguistics
  • Leadership, Extra Curricular, and Community Involvement
  • Strength of nomination form submitted by graduate program

A student who meets all scholarship requirements is not guaranteed an award as there is a limited number of scholarships available.

Application deadline for continuing students is May 16th of each year.
