Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Women's Tennis

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green women's tennis.

The 2016-17 season was one that showed much promise for the future as head coach Sujay Lama brought together a group of eight women -- seven of which were sophomores or younger -- and turned them into a Conference USA power. The Mean Green won 11 matches and reached the C-USA semifinals for the seventh time in the last eight years. North Texas ended the year winning five of its last six matches and had a program record five all-conference award winners. Sophomore Maria Kononova broke nearly every singles season record and ended the year ranked No. 78 in the country for singles. She and her doubles partner Tamuna Kutubidze went 17-1 in doubles and were named first team all-conference for doubles for the second year in a row. Fellow sophomore Minying Liang roared on the scene at the end of the year, going 8-2 at the No. 5 spot and finished the year winning five of her last six. Liang was named all-conference as well.

North Texas is bringing in one of its most anticipated freshman classes next season and will look to build of this past season's success.

Under head coach Sujay Lama, the tennis team has won three conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in the last eight years.
