Day 1 Results 

ATLANTA - Records have already begun to fall on the first day of the 2018 Conference USA Championship as the North Texas swimming & diving team set a program best in the 200 medley relay.

"It was a great way to kick off the first day of conference," Mean Green assistant coach Rachel Friel said.

The A relay team of Jowita Sienczyk, Sarah Vaisse, Meredith Manry and Brittany Thurstin clocked a time of 1:40.79, edging out the previous record by six-hundredths of a second.

"It was a total team effort from Jowita to Brittany's finish," Friel said. "All four girls were really excited to break that record together and they deserved it. The whole team was behind them cheering them on every leg of the way."

The group just missed out on medaling in the event as Marshall barely out-touched the Mean Green at the wall. Thurstin was the fastest anchor of any school, swimming the final 50 yards in just 22.2 seconds.

North Texas followed it up with another fourth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:17.60, which ranks second-fastest in school history. Freshman Leigh Faires McGee also moved to second in the record books with a 200-yard time of 1:48.44.

"The hard work and dedication our whole team has put in this season is showing with the success we had tonight," Friel said. "A lot of leadership was shown today in and out of the water."

FIU, Rice and Marshall finished 1-2-3, respectively, in both relay events.

The conference championships continue Thursday with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and three-meter dive beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
