UNT Set To Compete In Loaded Aggie Invite Field

The North Texas men's golf team returns to action after a three-week layoff and the Mean Green are part of a loaded field in their return to the course. North Texas is coming off an 11th-place finish at The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, last month in another loaded tournament.

THE EVENT: The Traditions Club is a 7,146-yard, par-72 course. The two-day tournament begins Saturday, when golfers will play 36 holes, and concludes Sunday with an 18-hole final round.

THE FIELD: There are 14 teams participating in the tournament: No. 8 Alabama, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 10 Baylor, Denver, Houston, No. 31 Kent State, No. 12 LSU, Michigan, New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 6 Texas Tech. The Mean Green are ranked No. 60 in the latest GolfStat poll.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be No. 64 Ian Snyman, Thomas Rosenmueller, Jordan Sanders, Viktor Forslund and Vitek Novak.

LAST TIME OUT: North Texas battled a field loaded with six top-50 teams, highlighted by No. 7 Auburn, and finished the two-day Hayt Invitational in 11th place, while Ian Snyman tied for 20th individually at 1-over par.

STRACKE SAYS: "We are excited to play at the Aggie Invitational. This week is a great opportunity to move up the rankings for an NCAA at-large bid," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "Our competitive schedule gives our athletes the best opportunity to achieve All-American status and success after they leave school."

UP NEXT: North Texas will compete for the Conference USA championship at the conference tournament in Texarkana, Arkansas, on April 22-25.

HOME SWEET MARIDOE: North Texas has enjoyed its first year in its new home at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton. The course opened to members in July and gives the Mean Green a state-of-the-art home course with world-class facilities, including a fully-dedicated practice facility, complete with a two-ended driving range to account for many varying wind conditions, a sprawling three-acre short game retreat and indoor facilities with state-of-the-art hitting bays that provide tools the program has not yet had at its disposal.
