Management Department Scholarships

Department of Management Scholarships are competitively awarded by the department's Scholarship Committee to current UNT students according to each scholarship's criteria. Amounts awarded vary depending on available funds. Scholarships are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. Eligibility

Each scholarship will have its own specific set of eligibility criteria. Be sure to expand the view for the individual scholarships listed below to see if you meet all of the requirements before applying. The following is a list of minimum requirements for MGMT scholarships:

  1. Students must be a declared business major at time of application.
  2. Each scholarship (listed below) has its own set of eligibility criteria. Be sure that you meet all of the requirements for each scholarship you apply for.
  3. Students must be enrolled in the Fall 2018 semester in order to receive a scholarship.
  4. Students awarded scholarships must sign the Scholarship Acceptance Agreement and provide a thank you letter to the scholarship donor.

How to Apply

Read through the requirements of the various scholarships listed below, then click Apply Now at the bottom of the page. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Your application must include the following items to be considered
  1. A complete scholarship application – follow link below.
  2. If the scholarship requires an essay, provide an essay detailing your accomplishments, personal successes, goals as well as your need for a scholarship. You are limited to one page, with 1" margins, and 12 point font. Your name and Student ID must be included in the header. (Attach file)
Important Notes
  1. Your actual course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the criteria, the scholarship may be revoked.
  2. Payment authorization will be made only after course enrollment and eligibility requirements are verified by the 12th class day of the semester. Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged to register early.

Application deadline is March 1 at 5:00 p.m.

The College Fund Landscaping Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Maintain at least a 3.25 GPA (If an applicant meeting the GPA requirement is not available at the time of the award, an otherwise qualified applicant with a minimum 3.0 GPA will be selected).
  4. Major in Entrepreneurship. In the event that no applicant possesses these characteristics, students majoring in Business Management at the University will be eligible for consideration.

Department of Management Scholarship

Undergraduate Students:

  1. Must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at UNT.
  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.
  4. Have completed all pre-business requirements
  5. Have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship or Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management.

Graduate Students:

  1. Must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA with a major in Management
  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.
Management and International Business Skills Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business (or its successor) in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment within the College of Business (or its successor) at the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need full-time enrollment; and
  3. Enroll as a full-time student studying Entrepreneurship, Health Services Management, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Strategic Management (or their successors) at the university; and
  4. Students must maintain a GPA of at least 2.7 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students; and
  5. Students must be fluent in a language other than English, as evidenced by letter of recommendation from a college professor in the language's major attesting to fluency in a non-English language.
A student may be eligible to receive this scholarship in successive years if he or she reapplies and continues to meet the criteria above.
Steve Garvin and Garvin Financial Group Scholarship

Undergraduate Students:

  1. Must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at UNT.
  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.
  4. Must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements.
  5. Have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship.

Graduate Students:

  1. Must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Strategic Management at UNT.
  2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.
C. L. Littlefield Business Management Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT.
  4. Preference should be given to graduate students for this award.
Jim McDonald Scholarship in Memory of C. L. Littlefield
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in one Department of Management professional field degree program at UNT.

Note: Applicants from the College of Business meeting all requirements except(3) may still be considered.

Morris D. and Evelyn B. Misso Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in the degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student with a major in the Department of Management at UNT.
  4. Must be of sound moral character.

Note: Applicants from the College of Business meeting all requirements except (3) may still be considered.

Maureen F. Moore Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher.
  4. Enroll, or intend to enroll, as a full-time student in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management at UNT.
  5. Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial needs.

Note: Applicants meeting only the requirement in (1) may still be considered.

Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance requirements and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Be enrolled in the College of Business as a full-time student with any major in the Department of Management.
  3. Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and a College of Business GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Be of junior standing or higher.
  5. Express a particular interest in entrepreneurship or entrepreneurial studies (an essay of no more than 600 words is required).
  6. Have exhibited entrepreneurial traits by meeting one of the three requirements below:
    1. Having successfully operated some form of part-time or full-time enterprise (a description of the business is required).
    2. Being currently employed for a minimum of 20 hours per week (a copy of your current resume is required) while carrying a minimum of 12 undergraduate (or 9 graduate) hours.
    3. Having earned a minimum of 50% of college expenses during the prior summer (a copy of your 2016 W-2 form is required).

All awards from the Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship shall be full scholarships to individual students up to $5,000, depending upon current available funding.

Christina M. Nobrega Memorial Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Be classified as a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management.
  3. Be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
  4. Submit an essay of at least 600 words which describes their career goals and how an award from this scholarship will help the applicants achieve them.
  5. Enroll as a student in the Department of Management at UNT.
  6. Students working full- or part-time, demonstrating financial needs, and qualifying for financial assistance will be given preference.
  7. The scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient during his/her senior year if the student reapplies and continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Note: Applicants from the College of Business meeting all requirements except (5) may still be considered.

William D. and Marilyn B. Oates Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in the College of Business in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Joseph O. and Betty A. Roy Business Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT to study management topic involving a significant international learning experience.

Note: Applicants from the College of Business enrolling as full-time students and meeting all requirements except (3) may still be considered.

Elvis and Joyce Stephens Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT with a major in Organizational Behavior/Human Resources Management or any other Management program.
  4. Demonstrate financial needs.
  5. Preference will be given to applicants who supply a statement certifying that they are the first in their family to attend college, i.e., their parents and siblings did not attend college.
Emabeth Thompson Scholarship in Human Resource Management
  1. Major in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management.
  2. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (for current students) or meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award (for prospective students).
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship monies are received unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
Deborah and David Roylance Leadership and Innovation Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they are nearing completion of their degree programs and not required to be full-time
  3. Enroll as a full-time student with a major in the Department of Management at UNT. In the event that no applicants meet this criterion, students enrolling full-time in the College of Business at UNT will be eligible for consideration.
  4. Submit an essay of no more than 500 words that demonstrates the applicants’ leadership potential, commitment to innovation, and dedication to applying learned skills that will foster business leadership through their effective use of business management principles with integrity
  5. The scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient in successive years no more than two times if s/he reapplies and meets the eligibility requirements.
Duffy and Tina Oyster Foundation Free Enterprise Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management (or its successor) in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need full-time enrollment;
  3. Have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale;
  4. Enroll as a full-time junior or senior student majoring in Entrepreneurship (or its successor) at the University; and
  5. Preference will be given to an employed student.
