DENTON – The North Texas men’s cross country team will participate in the Pre-National meet hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10:30 a.m.

The Mean Green will have a chance to run on the same course that will host the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 18.

“This meet is our last invite before the championship season begins,” cross country coach Kevin Williams said. “There are a lot of C-USA teams competing so we will get a look at them before the conference meet in two weeks.”

The men’s team will send seven runners to compete in the 8k race against 58 teams including, fellow regional competitors in Abilene Christian, Baylor, Houston, Rice, Texas, Texas Tech and UTEP.

Senior Mike Lowe is coming off a solid 14th place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational and freshman Jack Beaumont was 23rd. Junior Alex Cleveland, senior Zach Kirkland, sophomore Hayden Murphy, senior Rick Nally and sophomore Tim Jones will also be competing.

“Individually, I want to see if each runner can improve upon their performance from the Texas A&M race,” Williams said. “We have had a good training block since then and I am looking to see how Mike Lowe can run against a quality field of runners.”

North Texas will have two weeks to prepare for the Conference USA Championships hosted by Southern Miss on Oct. 28.
