Accounting Department Scholarships

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the Department of Accounting Scholarship Committee to all accounting majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions and are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. Eligibility

  1. Students must be a declared accounting major at time of application.
  2. Each scholarship (listed below) has its own set of eligibility criteria. Each applicant will be considered for every accounting scholarship – unless they do not meet the specific eligibility criteria.
  3. Scholarships are awarded for the upcoming Academic year (2018-2019) so students must have at least one or two semesters remaining in their program, to be eligible.
  4. All applicants must be full-time students during the semester/s the scholarship is awarded. A full-time student is defined as an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 12 academic hours or a graduate student taking a minimum of 9 academic hours during the Fall/Spring semesters.
  5. Students awarded scholarships must sign the Scholarship Acceptance Agreement and provide a thank you letter to the Department of Accounting.

How to Apply

Read through the requirements of the various scholarships listed below, then click Apply Now at the bottom of the page. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Your application must include the following items to be considered
  1. A complete scholarship application – follow link below.
  2. An essay detailing your accomplishments and personal successes as well as your need for a scholarship. You are limited to one page, with 1" margins, and 12 point font. Your name and Student ID must be included in the header. (Attach file)
  3. A complete resume including work experience, activities, and educational background. (Attach file)
Important Notes
  1. Your course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the criteria, the scholarship may be revoked.
  2. Payment authorization will be made only after course enrollment and eligibility requirements are verified by the accounting department on the 12th class day of the semester. Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged to register early.

The Accounting Advisory Board Excellence Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the Department of Accounting.
  2. Graduate students and undergraduate students who have completed 24 hours.
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.5.
George & Nesha Morey Scholarship

  3. Must be in senior year of undergraduate or 1st year of the Masters program.
  4. Have prior work experience in relevant business or professional setting or working 16 hrs a week in relevant business or profession.
Horace Brock Honorary Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the Department of Accounting.
  2. Member of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting) or a graduate from Sunset High School in Dallas.
BKD, LLP Scholarship
