DENTON – The North Texas men’s and women’s cross country teams head to the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Dale Watts cross country course. The women’s 6k race begins at 9:15 a.m. while the men’s 10k follows at 10:15 a.m.

“Both groups had a nice meet at the conference championships, so we are hoping to build-off of the meet two weeks ago,” cross country coach Kevin Williams said. “For both teams, I would like to improve upon last year's result (ninth for the men, 12th for the women). I think both team are capable of doing this on the right day.”

The men’s team will be sending seniors Mike Lowe, Rick Nally, Zach Kirkland, freshman Jack Beaumont, sophomore Tim Jones and redshirt sophomore Alex Cleveland. On the women’s side, juniors Susannah Lynch, Rea Iseli, Baylee Nelson, seniors Christina Moralez, Victoria Junious, sophomores Jennifer White and Cassidy Adams.

The Mean Green competed on the same course at the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 23rd. Lynch took home first place and broke a school record in the 6k with a time of 20:23.1. Lowe finished 14th with a time of 24:25.0.

“We ran the regional preview meet at the beginning of the year and it wasn't a great performance,” Williams said. “We have had great training since then and are coming in healthier than last time, which should give us a better result.”

The top two teams in each race earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 18. In addition, the top four individual finishers not on a qualifying team will advance to the national meet.

“Susannah had a great performance winning the invite on this course earlier, so hopefully she can repeat what she did last time. The men are moving up in distance to 10k for the first time all year, which is always a tough test. I think that the longer distance should favor our top runners.”
