Volleyball Earns No. 8 Seed At Sun Belt Tournament With UALR Heartbreaker

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (11/14/09) - The North Texas volleyball team will make its return to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed following a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at UALR (20-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 15-11).

The Mean Green (12-20, 8-10 Sun Belt) opened the match with a first-set win, and forced 11 UALR (16-13, 10-8 Sun Belt) attack errors in a dominating victory in the third set. North Texas will face No. 1 seed Florida International in the first round of the SBC Tournament next weekend in Bowling Green, Ky.

Last year, the Mean Green missed the conference tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2000.

NT trailed by as many as six points in the fourth set, and nearly completed the late comeback attempt. Brittany Brown posted one of her team-high 18 kills to bring NT to within a point at 24-23, but UALR's Anita Bucur slammed the door with one of her 23-kills.  

Brown not only recorded 18 kills, but tallied her first double-double with a career-best 10 blocks. Brittani Youman and Kati Dillard racked up 14 and 11 kills each.

Amy Huddleson, NT's top offensive weapon, turned into the squad's best defender against the Trojans. The junior led four player in double-digit digs with 18. Kayla Saey also had a double-double with 52 assists and 14 digs.
