DENTON (11/1/06) - The North Texas men's and women's track teams spent part of its weekend volunteering with Hearts for Homes and the Fair Oaks Retirement Community.

For the second straight year, the women's team assembled on Saturday to freshen up the retirement center. They cleaned the blinds for each apartment, swept up the parking lot area, and also planted new trees for the residence.

The men's team worked with Hearts for Homes, painting and repairing homes of widows and other elderly folks with home repair/maintenance needs.

The North Texas Athletic Department seeks to provide opportunities for Mean Green student-athletes, coaches, and administrators to interact with the local and regional community in an effort to extend goodwill, to help fulfill specific needs, and to "give back" to our valued constituents.  Past projects have included reading to children at various schools and after-school programs, neighborhood beautification projects, Habitat for Humanity and others.
