White Leads NT To NCAA West Preliminaries
North Texas will send 15 athletes in 12 events to the NCAA West Preliminary Round next weekend in Austin, Texas, the NCAA announced on Thursday afternoon.
DENTON, Texas (5/16/13) – North Texas will send 15 athletes in 12 events to the NCAA West Preliminary Round next weekend in Austin, Texas, the NCAA announced on Thursday afternoon.
Steven White leads the Mean Green with a third-place seeding in the 400-meter hurdles. White qualified for the preliminary round with a school-record time of 49.93 at the SBC Championships.
Clint Collins qualified for the 400-meter dash with a personal best 46.85. Distance runner Matt Russ qualified for the 1,500-meter run with a third-place finish at the Long Beach State Invitational and a time of 3:46.55.
Terrance Williams will compete in the long jump with a qualifying leap of 7.38 meters. Aaron Sirles rounds out the men’s side qualifying the discus throw with a throw of 52.58 meters.
Shahaf Bareni leads the women with a sixth seed in the high jump. Bareni qualified with a leap of 1.82 meters at the North Texas Classic. Haley Thompson qualified for the event with a distance of 1.74 meters.
Jo Adams is close behind with a tenth-place seed in the 1,500-meter run. Adams qualified for the preliminary round in a school record 4:16.20.
Charlotte Wilson will participate in the 3,000-meter run. Wilson won the event at the SBC Outdoor Championships in 10:34.88.
Sprinter Ashley Harrison qualified for the 400-meter dash in a personal best 53.74 at the SBC Outdoor Championships. Chastity Stewart ran a school-record 13.39 100-meter hurdles at the SBC Outdoor Championships to qualify for the preliminary round.
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team, composed of Ashley Henry, Simone Johnson, Mona Landry and Kayla Savoie, qualified with a time of 45.30 at the North Texas Classic.
The NCAA West Preliminary Round begins on Thursday, May 23, at the Mike A Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas and runs through Saturday, May 25. Qualifying teams and individuals advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.
