DENTON, Texas (4/29/09) - The North Texas track and field team will play host to the fifth annual Mean Green Twilight Invitational Thursday at Fouts Field in the first and lone home track meet of the season.

Although the UIL track meet that was originally scheduled for this weekend at Fouts Field has been canceled, the Twilight Invitational will resume as planned.

Last time out, North Texas posted six regionally qualifying marks and recorded three school records at the Sooner Invitational last week in Norman, Oklahoma. Senior thrower Brock Stickler broke the discus record, formerly held by James Barfield, with a heave of 178-03. That mark is good enough for second in the Sun Belt.

Lauren Wiggins also broke her own record in the 100-meter hurdles (13.50) to claim the top spot in the conference and Christal Brewster also broke her own record in the pole vault (12-04.00).

North Texas enters the meet with six marks ranked in the top 25 in the country, including freshman Keyth Talley’s time in the 200-meter dash from the Sooner Invitational (20.86). The Mean Green has also made their mark in the Sun Belt with 13 marks in the top three.

The hammer throw will get the Mean Green Twilight started at 10 a.m., with the other field events scheduled to follow throughout the day. The women’s 4X100-meter relay will kick off the running events at 5 p.m.

Thursday’s meet is free to the public and results will be available on www.meangreensports.com following the last event.
