Wiggins Takes First At Last Chance Meet

FAYETEVILLE, Arkansas (3/6/09) In an attempt to strengthen their hopes at the NCAA Championships the Mean Green sent four runners to the Arkansas Last Chance Meet Friday and senior Lauren Wiggins picked up right where she finished the regular season.

Wiggins finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41, beating out a field of eight other competitors. She also finished second in the 60-meter dash with a 7.66 finish.

Sophomore Brittani Simmons joined Wiggins in the 60-meter dash and finished second in the finals with a season-best time of 7.65. Her previous best time had come at the Sooner Open II (7.74).

On the men’s side junior Byron Washington placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04. He had tied his season-best time of 6.95 in the prelims. The highly touted Keyth Talley was a DNS.

If any member of North Texas does qualify for the NCAA Championships, they will take place Mar. 13-14 in College Station, Texas.
