Wehr Breaks Own School Record In Heptathlon At Iowa St. Classic

AMES, Iowa (2/12/10) - Although the North Texas track and field team wasn't participating as a team this weekend, several individual athletes made the trip to the Iowa State Track and Field Classic in hopes of setting NCAA Provisional/Automatic marks.

Junior multi-athlete Jordan Wehr made the most of the opportunity on Friday by breaking his own school record he set last year in the heptathlon (5,156 points) with 5,318 points and a third place finish. Wehr's total points falls just seven points shy of the NCAA Provisional requirement, however it is easily the top time in the Sun Belt Conference this season and one of the best marks in the conference's history.

North Texas also got a first place finish from senior Ashley Austin, who won the long jump with a season-best distance of 19-07.50.

Wehr will be back in action tomorrow when he performs in the pole vault. North Texas has 12 athletes in total that will be performing in various events, including Keyth Talley and Brittani Simmons in the 60-meter dash.

Action gets underway tomorrow at 9 a.m. and live results can be found by clicking here.
