Mean Green Turn In Solid Efforts At Red Raider Meet

LUBBOCK, Tex. (2/8/03) -- The Mean Green women's 4X400 relay team won the event with a time of 3:52.76 at the Red Raider Invitational on Saturday, capping a day of strong performances by North Texas in its second indoor meet of the season.

On the women's side Monica Coates finished in second place with a time of 8.22 in the 55-meter hurdles. Senior Ananka Clark also turned a quick time in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.14, third best in the Sun Belt this season and just .06 off her school record time of 7.08.

Freshman Diedra Wesley, the reigning Sun Belt Conference field performer of the week, placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-4.50.

Dagmar Salazar also turned in a solid effort in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:39.50 to finish second.

On the men's side the side the 4x400 relay team took third place with a time of 3:18.72. Nathan Roberts had a time of 6.53 in the 55-meter hurdles and David Turner placed fifth in the 600-yard dash with a time of 1:13.30

In the field events Jarrod Stone placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 6-7. Jerome Carrothers also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 50-4.75. Distance runner Matt Gieringer also turned in a good time in the 3000 meters as he took home fourth place with a time of 8:55.45

The Mean Green track and field teams are back in action next Friday, February 14, at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville.
