Mean Green Set Two Meet Records At North Texas Classic

DENTON, Texas (4/10/10) - North Texas Track and Field wrapped up the its Spring Classic at Fouts Field on Saturday evening with an excellent showing.

Brittani Simmons, who held the second fastest time in the Sun Belt coming in, pushed past her teammate Missy Barnes to capture second place in the 100-meter dash and the conference's top time at 11.69 seconds.

Coming off a strong showing last week at the Texas Relays, junior Alysha Adams didn't lose a step this week, taking the 100-meter hurdles in a new met record time of 13.42 seconds.

The women's high jump saw another Mean Green athlete capture first place.  Freshman Suzy Prikryl set her new personal record clearing a height of 1.70 meters.

On the men's side, Matt Peters led the way for North Texas in the 800-meter run, taking first in 1:53.07.  Reggie Hayter finished seventh with a time of 1:54.95.

The 300-meter run saw the Mean Green sweep first and second with two seconds to spare.  Patrick Strong took the lead with a quarter-lap remaining over teammate Matt Russ and finished with a time of 8:38.93.

Steven White was another member of the team to set a meet record when he registered a time of 51.94 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, nearly one and a half seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Eron Phillips took first in the men's long jump when he leapt 7.51 meters. That mark was .26 meters farther than any other competitor.

North Texas will be back in action next weekend when it heads to the Sooner State to compete in the Sooner Invitational, held by the University of Oklahoma.
