Mean Green Track & Field Earns USTFCCCA Academic Award

DENTON – The North Texas women’s track & field team and senior Bryce McAndrew were honored academically for the 2015-16 season, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

McAndrew, a senior from Austin, had a 3.47 GPA in biology and finished fifth in the 1500-meter run at the C-USA outdoor championships. McAndrew set a school record in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:06.07 at the Bryan Clay invitational. He also qualified for the NCAA West prelims in the 1500m run and placed 31st. McAndrew also was named 2016 C-USA’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for cross country.

The North Texas women’s track & field team (3.13 GPA) was honored along with 219 total Division one women’s teams that were named All-Academic by the Association.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 570 men from 161 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2015-16 track & field season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

• For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
• For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
