Final Results

LONG BEACH, CA – The North Texas track and field teams finished their annual California trip by earning five podium marks at the Beach Invitational on April 20-21.

“It was a great couple of days for our team,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “We got exactly what we came for in quality competition and improved performances. The winds were very favorable for the javelin throwers as Kristyn Archuleta continues to improve her school record and Javier Lopez-Ibarra narrowly missed beating his own school record.”

On Friday, sophomore Kristyn Archuleta finished as the third collegiate with a career-best javelin throw of 51.51 meters (169-0 feet), increasing her own school record in the event and is ranked 12th on the NCAA West qualifying list.

Junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra came in sixth in javelin with a throw of 66.43 meters (217-11 feet), his second best mark this season. Lopez-Ibarra is ranked 19th on the NCAA West qualifying list.

Sophomore Breanna Eckels was third in long jump with a career-best mark of 6.28 meters (20-7.25 feet), tied for the third-best in school history.

“Breanna Eckels is setting up for another outstanding outdoor season,” Sheffield said. “After overcoming injury, she continues to improve her personal best.”

The women’s 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Taylor Blackshire, freshman Aneesa Scott, junior Bria Williams and sophomore Breanna Eckels ran a season-best time of 45.29 and finished second.

Freshman Darien Porter was the third collegiate to finish in the 100-meter dash at 10.58. Senior Alford Tribble came in sixth with a time of 10.66.

In the 200-meter dash, Tribble finished second with a time of 21.48, junior James Cole was fourth at 21.65 and Porter came in fifth at 21.68.

“The men’s and women’s relay chemistry is finally starting to show improvement,” Sheffield said. “I think we feel like we have a great opportunity at the Conference Championship and qualify for a national qualifying mark.”
