College of Business General Scholarships

College of Business General Scholarships are competitively awarded by the College's General Scholarship Committee to business majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Awards are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. Eligibility

  1. Students must be a College of Business major (or PBUS) at time of application.
  2. Students must be currently enrolled at UNT and have completed at least one semester at UNT BEFORE Spring 2018.
  3. Each scholarship (listed below) has its own set of eligibility criteria. Based on your qualifications, we will put you into consideration for ALL scholarships for which you are eligible.
  4. Students must not be scheduled to graduate before Fall 2018.
  5. Students awarded scholarships must sign the Scholarship Acceptance Agreement and provide a thank you letter to the scholarship donor.

How to Apply

Read through the requirements of the various scholarships listed below, then click Apply Now at the bottom of the page. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Your application must include the following items to be considered
  1. An essay detailing your accomplishments and personal successes as well as your career aspirations. You are limited to one page, with 1"; margins, and 12 point font. Your name and Student ID must be included in the header. (Attach file)
  2. Please note that some scholarships may have additional requirements. For example, the Lupe Murchison Foundation Graduate Scholarship and the James Coln Scholarship require additional essays.
Important Notes
  1. Your course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the criteria, the scholarship may be revoked.
  2. Payment authorization will be made only after course enrollment and eligibility requirements are verified on the 12th class day of the semester. Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged to register for classes as early as possible.

COB General Scholarship

Summerfield G. Roberts Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Enroll as a full-time or as a part-time student, with a minimum enrollment of six (6) hours per semester in COB Master’s program.
  3. Resident of the state of Texas.
Dean Marvin Berkeley Scholarship Fund
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Enroll as a full-or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Business at UNT.
COB State Farm Scholarship Fund
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Michael Andereck Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in any of the degree-granting programs of COB.
Judge Bob Forman Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Business at UNT.
  3. This fund will permit the award of $1,000 annually to a former truant student of the Dallas ISD who successfully enrolls in the College of Business at UNT.
  4. In the even there is no former truant student, the award will be given to a Dallas ISD student who successfully enrolls in the College of Business at UNT.
  5. As the endowment grows, additional scholarships will be awarded in increments of $1,000 per recipient, as stated above.
Katie Henley Business Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Students may be full-time or part-time with continuous satisfactory progress.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Robert R. Miller Business Endowed Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. For students continuing as sophomores, juniors, seniors and Graduate students.
  4. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  5. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Wells Fargo Bank Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Osborne & Dee Linguist Endowed Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Students may be full-time or part-time with continuous satisfactory progress.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
John and Sue Fredrick Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT, unless the student is nearing completion of their degree program and does not need full-time enrollment.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in Marketing or Management at the University. In the event no applicant meets this criteria, then students enrolling full-time in the College of Business at the University will be eligible for consideration.
  4. Preference will be given to students who are active members of the student organization Enactus – Students in Entrepreneurial Action
Lupe Murchison Foundation Graduate Fellowship
  1. Must be a Masters student pursuing a degree in finance or accounting.
  2. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  3. Must be devoted to full time graduate study and may work no more than 20 hours per week at a campus job or in College Work Study.
  4. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  5. In addition to the application form, the applicant will submit an essay explaining how they personify a strong work ethic through personal experience in meeting and overcoming challenges. The essay should also include current or past business/entrepreneurial experience and success, leadership skills, participation in organizations and/or group events, and plans for their future in the business or non-profit world.
  6. If the applicant is applying for a renewal of the Fellowship, write an additional essay stating how the initial Fellowship award benefited the applicant's career aspirations. An applicant may only receive one renewal of this award.
  7. It is the donor's intent that the Fellowship not be awarded as an academic achievement fellowship, but instead be awarded based on promise and effort. This Fellowship will be awarded to those who might not be eligible for awards based strictly on academic achievement.
Aaron Paul Wilford Memorial Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the COB.

John and Helen Green Endowment Fund
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the COB.

Colonel John B. Girvan Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the COB.
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Preference will be given first to children of active duty military, then to those currently enrolled in ROTC.
Lieutenant Colonel Augustine M. Grassi Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the COB.
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Preference will be given first to children of active duty military then to those currently enrolled in ROTC.
Alan G. Mayper Doctoral Scholarship
  1. Be enrolled in the UNT College of Business doctoral program.
  2. Meet the minimum entrance or continuing performance standards of the UNT College of Business doctoral program.
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT, unless otherwise exempted by the Toulouse Graduate School.
John Brooks Endowed Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Students may be full-time or part-time with continuous satisfactory progress.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.50 with a need statement.
Paden Neeley Presidential Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Maintain full-time enrollment at UNT, unless they have less than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in any of the degree-granting programs of COB.
Randy Hickman Endowed Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Students may be full-time or part-time with continuous satisfactory progress.
  4. Demonstrate potential success in business community, academic standing, and particular interest and concentration in fashion merchandising.
  5. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Steve Cole Memorial Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  3. Enroll as a full-time student in any of the degree-granting programs of COB.
  4. Be a member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity with demonstrated financial need.
  5. Should there be no applicant for the scholarship from the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity for three consecutive years, the COB scholarship committee may award annual scholarships from this fund to other students meeting qualifications A, B, &C.
Enterprise Holdings Scholarship
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing performance standards of the COB.
  2. Undergraduate students must have completed 24 hours.
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at UNT, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
  4. Minimum GPA of 3.75 or 3.5 with a need statement.
The James Coln Endowed Scholarship in Business
  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business (or its successor) in effect at the time of any award.
  2. Maintain at least half-time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need half-time enrollment.
  3. Enroll as at least a half-time student and declare a major in the College of Business (or its successor) at the University; or be pre-Business or Business undetermined if sufficient courses have not been completed in order to declare a major in the College of Business.
  4. Submit an essay of no more than 750 words describing the applicant’s goals and vision for his or her future professional career.
  5. Preference will be given to students majoring in Entrepreneurship or Decision Sciences (or their successor areas).

Jim Coln graduated from UNT in 1960 and was named Sigma Nu Man of the Year in the same year. He worked his way through college at times taking a semester off to earn enough money to continue. In 2014 he was given the UNT Outstanding Alumni Award. Jim trained as an industrial engineer and became president and CEO of Clarke American Checks and a senior VP and executive director of Caradon America and MB Clarke of the U.K. He loved his time at UNT and enjoyed helping young people all his life.
