Waranch Tennis Complex Construction Underway

DENTON (5/30/05) -- Construction on the Waranch Tennis Complex, a 12-court facility that will be home to the North Texas women’s tennis team, is underway and expected to be completed in October 2005 and ready for the Mean Green’s 2006 spring season.

Located on Bonnie Brae Street just south of the new North Texas athletic department, the tennis complex will feature coaches’ offices, home and visitor locker rooms, a team meeting room and a pro shop in addition to the 12 courts. There will be three covered spectator areas that will have six courts to each side.

"The tennis complex has been one of the most needed facilities at North Texas for years," said North Texas athletic director Rick Villarreal. "This state of the art complex will allow us to host any number of events. In addition, it will help lure top-level recruits to join our already outstanding players, a combination that should lead to success at the Division I level."

"We are thrilled to have the addition of the new Waranch complex," said North Texas head women’s tennis coach Dawna Prevette. "It will give our current student-athletes as well as our alumni somewhere to call home. We will have a true homecourt advantage and the addition of the complex opens many doors for us recruiting. It will also allow us to create a fan base for our athletes since we will be on campus."
