DENTON, Texas - North Texas tennis celebrated its 2010-11 season with its season ending banquet at the Denton Holiday Inn on Sunday night.

The Mean Green finished the season with a loss to eventual Sun Belt Conference Champion FIU 4-3, in the semifinals.  North Texas was the only school to take points off of the Golden Panthers in the tournament.

"These ladies showed great poise and worked hard both on and off the court all year long," said head coach Sujay Lama. "Today was a celebration of a season where they battled and overcame tremendous adversities."   

Junior Irina Paraschiv received the Most Improved and Most Valuable Player awards for her campaign at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots and as a member of the No. 1 doubles team with Barbora Vykydalova.

Vykydalova was named the Player to Watch in the future by the North Texas coaching and support staff. The sophomore moved from a middle of the line-up player at the start of the season to the No. 1 singles player for the SBC Tournament.

Junior Nadia Lee received both the Catalina Cruz Spirit Award and the Academic Award. Lee was deemed as the player that gave off the most energy on the court for her teammates to feed off of and carried her weight in the classroom.

The Mean Green also said goodbye to two seniors who have played their last matches for North Texas.

Madura Ranganathan and Amy Joubert finished their careers as the winningest players to pass through the programs in over 20 years.

"Maddy and Amy left their mark in our program by being the first to get us a SBC championship, first national ranking and a berth in the NCAA tournament," Lama added. "We thank them and wish them the very best for the future."
