Cruz & Joubert Vault Tennis Past New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (2/23/08) The Mean Green tennis team used tiebreak wins from Catalina Cruz and Amy Joubert to knock off New Mexico State 4-3 on Saturday.

 

Down 2-6 and 3-6 respectively after their opening sets, Cruz and Joubert both rebounded to clinch the North Texas (5-4) victory over the Aggies (6-3). Cruz improves to 6-3 on the year with the 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 win, while Joubert decided the match with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory.

 

“We’re really proud of the way Amy was able to keep her composure and get the job done,” head coach Sujay Lama said. “I know it will do a lot for her confidence. Conditions were tough but we had to fight till the end.”

 

The newly-formed doubles team of Madura Ranganathan and Cruz remained undefeated with an 8-6 win. Idalina Franca and Narine Kazarova also picked up an 8-6 to improve to 6-2 this year.

 

The North Texas tennis will head to El Paso to take on UTEP.
