North Texas Cracks Top Ten In Latest Poll

Complete Mid-Major Rankings

DENTON, Texas (12/29/08) - The North Texas swimming & diving team broke into the Top 10 by receiving a No. 10 ranking in the latest CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Poll released on Monday.

The Mean Green moved up four spots from the last poll which had been out since November 25.

North Texas last competed on November 23 posting a second place finish out of nine schools at the Husker Invite featuring the likes of Rice, Colorado State, Iowa State, and Nebraska. Rice won the meet followed by North Texas then Colorado State.

The team also set six new school records in the 100 Freestyle, 1000 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 200 Butterfly, and the 800 Freestyle Relay.

Three other Sun Belt schools also earned a Top 25 spot in the latest Mid-Major poll. The Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky placed the highest at fifth, New Orleans at 23rd, and Florida Atlantic in 24th. The Mean Green defeated New Orleans earlier in the season and face the Owls of FAU on January 3.

North Texas also has some familiarity with No. 8 ranked Missouri State. At the North Texas Relays back on October 3, the Mean Green finished ahead of the Bears out of five schools who competed.

The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on the best dual meet lineup for each team as decided by participating schools. Rankings are released four times throughout the season November (Pre-Invite), December (Post-Invite), February (Pre-Conference), and March (Post-Conference).

North Texas is back in action this weekend at the FAU Invite in Boca Raton, Florida on Saturday.
