Mean Green Swimming & Diving Opens Season at Fall Classic

The North Texas women's swimming & diving team kicked off its season in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Friday afternoon at day one of the Sun Belt Fall Classic. The Mean Green are in third place after the first day's events and will compete in the finals Saturday at 10 a.m.

Senior All-Sun Belt swimmer, Bethany Pipes, and freshman newcomer Bonnie Meitin-Garcia provided the Mean Green with top finishes in their respective events. Pipes placed second in the 200 Freestyle and third in the 200 Backstroke, while Garcia-Meitin finished second in the 100 Freestyle.

In addition to North Texas, the five-team field includes Nevada, Air Force, Northern Colorado and Sun Belt Conference rival New Mexico State. The Mean Green are ahead of NMSU  and UNC as they faced off in a dual meet against each team. Nevada and Air Force have provided the field with strong competition, placing them in the top two positions going into the next day's events.
