North Texas Swimming & Diving Falls To Houston

HOUSTON, Tex. (10/20/02) - Despite winning four events outright and claiming 19 top-three finishes in 16 events, the North Texas women’s swimming and diving team (1-1) fell to the Univ. of Houston in a head-to-head meet on Saturday, 112-184.

Competing in only its second meet of the season, the outing was the Mean Green’s first of the year that featured individual events. North Texas defeated Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 6 in a relay meet.

Freshman Bethany Pipes (San Antonio, Tex.) led North Texas with two first-place finishes. She won the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events with times of 1:02.49 and 2:12.83, respectively. Charlene McClain (Jr.; Seabrook, Tex.) won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.18 and Tiffani Harkrider (Austin, Tex.) won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.95.

Freshman Kara Brock (Spring, Tex.) took second place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:34.18 and the Mean Green captured second place in the 200 yard medley relay (Pipes, Brock, Elizabeth Jennings, McClain) with a school-record time of 1:55.18.

North Texas will be back in action Oct. 26-27 at New Mexico State.
