Gentile and Weickgenant Recieve Mid-Major Honors

SOMERS, Wisc.- North Texas swimmers Rosa Gentile and Catia Weickgenant were named Honorable Mention Mid-Major All-Americans by CollegeSwimming.com on Monday.

Weickgenant achieved an NCAA 'B' standard time in the 500-yard freestyle, and Gentile made the 'B'-cut in the 100-yard butterfly. Weickgenant recieved all-conference honors in four events and set three school records at the Sun Belt Championships. Gentile was a member of two all-conference relay teams, one of which set a North Texas record at the Sun Belt Championships in Rockwall, Texas.

The nineteen women and eight men earned first-team mid-major honors based on their qualification for the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships. It was the second-fewest number of honorees in the seven years of the program.

An additional 118 male and 161 female swimmers were awarded Honorable Mention status. Honorable mention selections are swimmers who were entered with NCAA 'B' standards, but not selected for the 2011 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Those 279 swimmers represented 87 teams at sixty-two schools.
