DENTON, Texas- North Texas swimming and diving looks to carry its momentum into 2012 as they host UALR in the conference opener this Saturday.

The Mean Green previously defeated FIU (113.5-109.5) in Miami on December 20th and marginally fell to Alabama (121.5-115.5). Without its diving team, North Texas out-swam the Crimson Tide by 26 points.

The diving team wrapped up the Incarnate Word Invitational a few days prior in San Antonio, Texas and did not travel to Miami for the meet. At the Invite, sophomore Rebecca Taylor snapped the program scores in the 3-meter dive and platform dive, and qualified for the NCAA Zones Diving Championship in the 3-meter dive.
Since the beginning of the season in October, the team has broken 19 school records and currently owns 11 different program titles.

Freshman Krista Rossum owns five current records (100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM, 400 IM, and 400 Medley Relay), junior Catia Weickgenant four (200 Free, 500 Free, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Medley Relay), sophomore Rebecca Taylor two (three-meter and platform dive), sophomore Catherine Johnson one (one-meter dive), and both senior Rosa Gentile and freshman Mona Groteguth both recorded their names in the books in the 400 Medley Relay Race. 

Coach Dykstra’s winter break training has been no walk in the park for the team. He focused on instilling perseverance by keeping the team in top shape after multiple days of intense practice.

“The team has been working extremely hard and we’ve put a heavier training load on them this winter than ever before so I know they are ready to get back into racing mode,” commented Dykstra.

“This meet on Saturday will be a great opportunity to get up and race. We will still be very tired from a heavy week of training, but the team needs to be able to find a way to race through the fatigue that will benefit us in the end.”

The meet begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Janurary 14^th, at the Pohl Recreation Center.
