Dykstra Looks To Set Wins Record As Mean Green Head To UALR

DENTON, Texas (1/5/2010) - Mean Green Swimming & Diving heads to Little Rock, Ark., Wednesday to face off with Henderson State and conference rival UALR at 6 p.m. at the Donaghey Center Natatorium.

If head coach Joe Dykstra can lead his team to one of the possible two dual match wins available Wednesday night, he will tie former UNT coach Mona Nyheim-Canales for the most dual match wins in school history.  Winning both would put him in sole possession of first with 18 victories.

Meet Notes

"We've had a great week of training this past week and are looking to continue that quality of training and racing this week in Arkansas," Dykstra said.  "We have been working the team for 3-5 hours per day every day since the 29th of December so obviously we will be swimming tired in these meets, but that gives us great preparation for how they will feel on the fourth day of the conference championships."

North Texas (4-3) enters the meet coming off a fifth place performance at the Texas Invitational where they set numerous season fast times and finished behind four nationally ranked teams in No. 2 Arizona, No. 4 Texas, No. 8 Auburn and No. 17 Wisconsin.

The Donaghey Center Natatorium features a different obstacle for the Mean Green than most NCAA pools.  An Olympic size 50-meter pool will be awaiting the team in Little Rock along with one of the strongest UALR (3-1) swimming teams in years.  The Red Wave of Henderson State (1-1) enter the duals with a No. 6 ranking in NCAA Division II.
