DENTON, Texas (10/12/11) - In the Mean Green's first game of the fall season, the North Texas softball team exploded for 17 hits in a 16-11 win against Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon in College Station. The Mean Green hit two grand slams in a 10-3 victory against Sam Houston in its second game of the day at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational.

In its opening win, North Texas used a nine-run third inning to jump out ahead of the Aggies. All nine batters in the game for the Mean Green posted at least one hit against Texas A&M.

Lisa Johnson posted two home runs in the opening game, including a three-run shot in the first inning that gave North Texas an early lead. She also hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Johnson went 2-for-3 in the game with three walks. Lesley Hirsch went 5-for-6 against the Aggies.

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Poole picked up the win against Sam Houston. She pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs off five hits. She struck out four batters.

North Texas used two grand slams in the game to keep ahead of the Bearkats. Johnson hit one in the third inning and sophomore Brooke Foster belted the second grand slam of the day in the sixth. Hirsch, Sarah McGann and Foster all had two hits apiece in the game.

Johnson was the offensive leader of the day, knocking in nine RBI in the combined two games. The senior is the all-time walks leader at North Texas and is fifth in career home runs. She needs just five home runs in the spring to move into third place.

North Texas plays TWU on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Field on the campus of TWU in Denton.
