Softball Faces No. 19 Baylor Today At Home

DENTON, Texas (4/17/13) - The North Texas softball team finishes up the toughest part of its schedule with a home doubleheader against No. 19 Baylor on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Mean Green (18-19) has gone 0-5 in its last five games, including two losses to No. 23 South Alabama. North Texas is facing its second straight ranked opponent. Baylor is ranked No. 19 in this week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. North Texas is 0-6 this season against ranked opponents. North Texas has not defeated a ranked opponent since defeating No. 18 Baylor at home on March 16, 2011.

Baylor leads the series, 10-4, and has won the last five meetings. North Texas has lost twice to the Bears already this season. In the two games against Baylor, North Texas hit three home runs and knocked in six runs, but the team also struck out a combined 24 times.

Ashley Kirk struck out eight batters in the 3-2 loss to South Alabama. She now has 110 strikeouts this season, ranking her sixth in NT's single-season record book. She needs 17 more strikeouts to set the career strikeout record at North Texas.

Freshman Taylor Schoblocher has led the Mean Green offense the last five games with a .429 batting average. She went 3-for-5 against USA with a solo home run in the 12-1 loss. It was her fifth home run of the season, which is good for second on the team.
