Cantler Sets School Record In Softball Loss
TROY, Ala. (4/12/08) - North Texas freshman Mallory Cantler set a single-season school record in the 8-4 loss to the Troy softball team on Saturday afternoon at Troy Softball Complex.
The Mean Green (22-24, 8-8 Sun Belt) falls to 3-6 in the series against the Trojans.
Ashlyn Williams picked up her 21st win the circle for the Trojans, while Jennifer Smith fell to 8-11 on the year.
The Trojans loaded up the bases in the first inning, and Hillary Hughes came through in the clutch with a two-out single that scored two runs.
The home team added three more runs in the second inning with an RBI single and a two-run homer by Heidi Johnson.
Cantler started the Mean Green going with a double in the fourth inning. She scored NT’s first run off a bases-loaded pinch-hit single by senior Heather Bostic. It was Bostic’s second pinch-hit single this week. Lauren Bergstrom drew a bases-loaded walk to score the Mean Green’s second run. Katya Muller lined out to end the rally.
With her double, Cantler also moved into a tie for fifth place on NT’s single-season record list with 59 hits. Bostic recorded 59 hits as a freshman in 2004. Muller set the record with 69 hits in 2006.
