Softball Hosts WKU This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (3/30/12) - The Mean Green softball team returns to the friendly confines of Lovelace Stadium when it hosts WKU in a three-game series this weekend on March 31-April 1.

North Texas is 6-1 at home and is currently 4-5 in the Sun Belt. The team is 1-2 in winning conference series in 2012. The Mean Green lost the conference series to the Hilltoppers (21-12, 4-2) last year, winning just one game on the road.  

The Mean Green returned home with a 2-3 record in Florida. Over six days, North Texas defeated Hartford and FIU and lost to Dartmouth in eight innings and fell twice to the Panthers. North Texas played three extra-inning games, posting a 1-2 record.  

The Mean Green has played nine extra-inning games this season, posting a 2-7 record in those games. In the last 12 games, North Texas has played seven games past seven innings. In all three extra-inning games this past week, North Texas scored early runs in the first inning but were not able to hold them.

For a second straight week, North Texas is ranked nationally in home runs per game. Out of 300 schools, North Texas is ranked 25th, posting 0.97 home runs per game. Individually, Maddelyn Fraley is ranked 55th in home runs per game (.27). North Texas has posted 22 home runs this season.

Brooke Foster had a big offensive week, leading the team with a .444 batting average, including three doubles and two home runs. She is now second on the team with four doubles and tied for third with five home runs. In the 6-5 loss to FIU, Foster supplied three of the team's eight hits. She went 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs. She tied the game in the seventh with her second home run of the day.
