DENTON, Texas (3/19/09) - The North Texas softball team faces Texas tonight at 6:30 pm in Austin at McCombs Field. The Mean Green has won its last three games and will play its next five games on the road.

North Texas is off to its best start in school history with a 15-10 record. The Mean Green is 0-6 in the series against the Longhorns. Texas has received votes in the NFCA/USA Today Top 25 Poll.

NT won its first non-conference game of the week, 8-1, against UTA. Kayla Lawson struck out a season-high eight batters and allowed just one run. The Mean Green offense posted eight hits, including three home runs. NT used four pinch-hitters and all four reached base. Jessica Lynn posted her first hit of the season; a home run.

Mallory Cantler is hitting .367 and leads the team with 29 hits and 17 RBI. She is among the Sun Belt leaders in home runs (5) and total bases (50).
