Mean Green Softball Sweeps South Alabama

Sarah Jones led the Mean Green with six RBI in the two games. She gave
Kristina Fowler picked up two wins after pitching relief in both games. The senior pitched a combined 10 innings and allowed just one run on eight hits. She struck out 10 batters.
Katya Muller, Mallory Cantler and Sarah Jones all posted multi-hit performances in both games. Fowler posted her second three-hit ball game of the season in the first game with a 3-for-4 outing.
The Mean Green needed nine innings in the first game, but came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Jaguars.
The Mean Green put itself into a hole early in the first game. The Jags scored five runs, three of them unearned, off three Mean Green errors.
Rebecca Waters began the comeback with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-2. Muller, Mariza Martinez and Cantler all singled to load the bases for Jones who hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Muller.
Cantler and Jones hit back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5. It was Cantler’s third home run of the season and Jones’ second.
Fowler started the ninth inning off with a single and was advanced to third on two sacrifice bunts. Waters knocked home Fowler for the winning run with a grounder to second base. Fowler beat the throw home.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, March 16 when it rounds out play against
