Softball Heads To San Marcos Again

DENTON, Texas (2/28/13) - The North Texas softball team makes its second straight trip to San Marcos to play five games in the CenturyLink Classic this weekend.

The Mean Green (7-9) will play Texas State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Purdue. North Texas defeated Texas State, 1-0, last week, and defeated the Islanders, 11-3, at the Texas Classic. The Mean Green is playing Purdue for the first time in school history.

On Friday, North Texas plays the Islanders at 10 a.m. and then Texas State at 3 p.m. The Mean Green will play twice more on Saturday and then finish up play on Sunday. All games can be viewed here.

North Texas is playing in its last regular-season tournament this weekend before conference play begins. The Mean Green is playing in its fourth tournament with the last two being at San Marcos. North Texas will return home to host FIU on March 9-10 and Troy on March 16-17.

After hitting just two home runs in their first nine games, North Texas hit six home runs over the weekend in five games. Jordan Terry hit two after hitting two all of last season. Brooke Foster hit her first of the season, and Karly Williams and Taylor Schoblocher hit the first of their careers. Schoblocher hit her first home run against Baylor, while Foster and Williams also added long balls against Baylor. Jackie Miller hit her first of the season against UTA. Home runs accounted for 10 of NT's 16 runs this past week.
